Value Chain Analysis

Deep insight into where impact really occurs

Most environmental and social impacts occur deep in value chains — upstream, far beyond first-tier suppliers. Yet for many organizations, these impacts remain invisible or estimated with generic data.

Our value chain analysis focuses on specific product or material chains and provides a deeper, evidence-based understanding of where societal costs arise, why they occur, and where improvement is most effective. The analysis relies primarily on primary data, collected directly from actors in the value chain.

How we work

We work closely with companies and value chain partners to:

  • Map the value chain from raw material to end product and determine the scope
  • Collect primary data through structured surveys and interviews
  • Identify environmental and social hotspots, risks, and drivers
  • Quantify and monetise impacts using the true pricing methodology

Value chain analysis can build on and complement Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and social LCA:

  • LCA and social LCA quantify impacts in physical units (e.g. CO₂, water use, labour hours)
  • True pricing translates these impacts into monetary values, making trade-offs explicit

Where LCA data exists, we use it as a foundation. Where it does not—or where social data is limited – we enrich analyses with primary data and validated datasets including our True Price Database. This creates a bridge between technical assessments and strategic decision-making.
